Unnecessary Comment
If you know me, you know I am not easily offended. But this comment...it kinda got to me a little bit. Luckily, it happened over the phone.Other Person: Your baby is so pretty.
Me: Thank you.
Other Person: She really is beautiful. The other two just weren't as pretty as she is.
Me: (Long silence) I can't believe you just said that.
I won't bore you with the details of the rest of the conversation. But, is it just me, or was the last part of that statement just really not necessary. I would've had absolutely no problem with just the first part but don't compare my kids and, in essence, put down my other two. Thank you if you think my baby is pretty. I do too. Now, let's just leave it at that.
Ugh...
My next post will be much happier and filled with pictures and commentary on my wonderful, although way too short, trip to Florida.

Whole-heartedly agree with you, completely unecessary comment! I don't know if this other person has kids but rule #1 you don't compare children.
Anyway girl I can't wait to hear about your trip. Our drive to FL with our 3 went quite well considereing we have one who has hated the carseat since her first trip home from the hospital.

That comment was so not called for, they should have followed the old addage, If you have nothing nice to say don't say anything at all.

Please forgive that person because they must not have been thinking. Maybe they had alot on their mind and was not thinking about how that statement sounds.
We really enjoyed seeing you all and look forward to seeing you all again soon. I am glad you all are back home safely.
Be careful though because of the swine flu. I am sure you already know that the first known fatal case was in Houston and it was a 23month old Mexican boy.

wow that was an inconsiderate comment. unfortunately comparison of siblings is a distressing part of life. Hopefully the person didn't mean it quite as harshly as it sounded but it's so easy to label children. the pretty one, the smart one, the funny one, etc. this is damaging even to the one whom the positive comment is applied.

Some folks suffer from "Foot in Mouth Disease". Even if they thought that, it was dumb to say it... especially to YOU. Like my grandmother use to tell me, "Everything that comes up, shouldn't come out."
That was just straight up ignorant. I would have asked her, very slowly, to repeat the question. Then I would have said "That's what I thought you said. I have to get off the phone." I would have absolutely been done with her. She doesn't deserve to have friends, really.
